Founded by Andras Fekete (1956-2018), BOAT BURNING plays “maximum minimalism” — elemental phrases played primarily guitars and drums — to create towers of densely stacked harmonics. The resulting sound combines the wide-screen sweep of classical with the physical thrall of punk.
Sam & The Big Boys are a rock and roll band from Gadsden, Alabama, built on a simple recipe:
loud guitars, tightly-knit harmonies, and exceptionally good times. Formed by actual brothers
with a lifelong love for music, they're steadily carving out a spot in Northeast Alabama’s music
scene with a sound that's as familiar as it is fresh and exciting.
In April 2024, Sam & The Big Boys released their debut EP, The Sound of the Year, a live
recording pulled together with the help of a lot of talented friends (and more than a few pots of
coffee) at The Coffee Bar in downtown Gadsden. They had full video and audio production,
photography, and a live studio audience. The project captures what the band does best: real
songs played by real people, with all the rollicking energy and spirit of a Friday night show.
In addition to playing rock n roll music, Sam & The Big Boys recently opened their own music
venue/practice space in downtown Gadsden under the name, The LTD, creating new
performance opportunities for bands in the local music scene and touring bands from all over
the country. This past August, Sam & The Big Boys got back to work, recording eleven new
tracks for their next full-length album, You Can Call Me Anything You Want, due out May 2025.
They’re still writing, still playing, still making noise — and it suits ‘em just fine.
Adjective Animal is the solo project of long time Baltimore musician Jon Birkholz. Drawing on influences from electronic music, Jon sought to recreate the feeling he got from listening to trip hop and trance during middle and high school. However, no sequencers or synths are used, instead the music is played on live instruments. Also appearing on this album are Super City bandmates Dan Ryan and Brian Brunsman, as well as drummer Mike Ross.
America’s Got Talons was recorded on a tascam 488 mkii cassette recorder during 2017-2018. Using tape streamlines the recording process and workflow by removing the sea of options provided by a modern mainstream DAW like protools or Ableton. In addition it lends an analog feel to the recording. Given the electronic influences, the process is very much a back and forth between digital and analog, for example writing on a computer, translating a part to an instrument, recording it to tape, and then mixing it later using a computer.
